Upon my arrival back to the states after living abroad in my later teen years I immediately enrolled in cosmetology school. From that moment I was hooked. Every day for the past ten years I’ve been reminded exactly why I do what I do. Because, you know when you’re getting ready for a night out or a job interview there is a moment, right before you back away from the mirror where you think to yourself “Damn, I look good!” That feeling right there is why I do what I do. I love getting to give that feeling to people on a day to day basis.

I have training in multiple different aspects of the hair industry because there isn’t just one type of hair. From a rigorous foundation at cosmetology school, to assisting in a salon for a year, to watching countless hours of education virtually, and learning from a multitude of cutting and color specialists at hands on classes there is not a type of hair out there that scares me.

I am one of the few people in this world that can say with all honesty that I truly do love what I do for a living. I love the interactions I have with people who sit in my chair, the education and product knowledge, the mathematics behind haircutting and the science that goes into a color formulation.

FOUNDER & Hairstylist

HEy THere!!

she/her

I'm Jenn

I was drawn to the industry at a very young age when, like most former emo kids, discovered fashion color. From that point forward I was using bic razors to try and texturize my bangs, saving every bit of pocket money to buy a new tub of lightener, and forcing my friends to let me try this random box of color on their heads. In hindsight, I probably owe their parents a decent chunk of change in color correction costs.

I’m a Libra Sun, Cancer Moon and Rising. I’m boisterous, empathetic, logical, incredibly nosy, and fully committed to making sure every person who sits in my chair feels safe enough to breathe. I built this salon experience With exactly one thing in mind:
You should never have to sacrifice who you are to feel beautiful.

Listen, if I’m not at work odds are you can probably find me at home curled up with a book, a bowl of popcorn, and a fuzzy blanket. Or crying over fictional characters that I've formed an unhealthy connection to. Both are equally likely and to be honest probably happening simultaneously.

Remember when you were 14 sleeping over at your best friend’s house, it’s 1am and music was bumping and you’re talking about life like the world is going to end tomorrow. And then it happens, the impulse to curl their hair or go into the bathroom and use that random manic panic tub you bought on a whim thinking “well, maybe one day I’ll be able to rock this color”. Or when you were in college and had that first “Holy shit, I would look killer with bangs” moment with your college roommate that may or may not end up being the coolest person in your life. What about that time in the bar bathroom where you asked a perfect stranger if they had a hair tie or if you should go blonde at your next hair appointment. There was joy, creativity, whimsy, rebellion, freedom, hope and self expression in a way that felt so uncaring of what the rest of the world thought. That’s the energy you get when you sit in my chair.

Stand Out Salon is a space where we chat about the state of the world and our fears, the weird movie that you saw last week on a whim, the fact that your kids are starting to grow up and have all these experiences of their own, or even about that cute dog you saw on your run last week. My chair is a safe space to get it off your chest and out of your hair.

Sometimes when you sit in my chair it’s because you want a really cool haircut, it’s because you finally decided to pull the trigger on the hair color you’ve been wanting since you were 14. Sometimes it’s because life punches you in the gut and you need to start over. Whatever the reason is, there is space for you.

Because, Hair? Well, hair is deeply personal. It’s transitional, it’s autonomy, it’s grief, it’s starting over, it’s expression, it’s identity, it’s you.

Stand Out Salon was built on the belief that you are enough, as you are. Its foundation lies in creativity, acceptance, and finally, starting to recognize who you see in the mirror.
